The father of magic, Satan, is a reality to whom the Bible clearly refers. He makes Job go by obstinate and hard ordeals. Satan teases Christ. Apostle Paul in his epistle to Thessalonians reports that Satan got in his way so as to prevent him from entering their city. Our Lord Jesus Christ expelled demons that possessed people. So did the apostles.
Who is Satan?
Satan and his devils weren’t always evil. Satan before his fall was one of the bigger heavenly creatures and his name was Lucifer « he who carries the light ». His position was on the highest place of the unbody creatures and spiritual perfection. As a spirit he is unaging and immortal having all the qualities of the angel nature, with no temporal or regional restrictions. He is restless with superior spiritual lucidity, he is immaterial, self sufficient and depends only from God.
Before his fall he was the first in the angelic hierarchy having power, brilliance, wisdom as well as the kindness of the angelic nature.
So how did this glorious heavenly spirit tumbled and collapsed? Before we watch Lucifer’s fall we must learn a few things about angels:
1. The angels were created before the creation of the world (Job 38, 7).
2. They are spiritual and incorporeal creatures.
3. Like every creature of God they have free will.
4. They can flourish spiritually or fall into sin.
On the grounds of the allotted freedom from our Lord, Lucifer chose his fall. Prophet Ezekiel describes the fall of Lucifer (28:15): “Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee”, and continues in verse 17: “Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee”. Lucifer’s pride converted into a delusion and ended into a revolt.
Prophet Isaiah mentions (14:13-14) “For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High”. His pride made him arrogant. He deluded himself so extremely as to want to be equal with God. His arrogance was one of the main reasons that led to his fall. With him he mislead a big number of angels form all the orders (Revelation 12:4).
Lucifer’s attitude turned into tragedy as Archangel Michael expelled him from heaven and knocked him down to earth (Revelation 12:17-19). “And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.”
Prophet Isaiah wonders (14:12): “How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning!”.
Psychology of Satan
I will try to describe the best I can the psychology of Satan so you will understand this awful enemy of people.
1. SATAN HAS NO KINDNESS OR DECENCY: Satan can only harm, bring pain and disaster.
2. SATAN IS THE FATHER OF DECEPTION: Satan uses lies in a beautified way so as to mislead people to sin and lose their eternal soul.
3. SATAN IS ARROGANT: thinks he can do anything while deeply inside he knows how weak he is against God.
4. SATAN IS A MANIAC DESTROYER: since the day of his fall he is after the destruction of humanity and everything honest. He is dangerous
5. HE IS A GREAT IMPOSTOR: everyday he uses innumerable knavery and pseudo-miracles to delude people and make them sin.
6. HE IS INHUMAN: Satan hates lethally the human race and is focused on its destruction. All of his powers are constantly in war grabbing everyday millions of souls and destroying bodies.
All the glory and kindness he had before his fall was turned into evil that burst on the unsuspected humanity who is blissfully hypnotised caring only for material goods. To understand better his psychology see the attributes of God in contrast with those of Satan:

Facts about Satan
Satan is always under God’s control
During his fall Satan pulled down with him a lot of angels from every angelic rank. In the Bible these drifted angels are called devils, demons, imps or unclean spirits. Nobody knows the exact number of demons but it is certain that it is huge.
Because of their number and because they are restless spirits
there is a sense that Satan and evil are everywhere. Because his is a being created from God he can’t be ubiquitous nor he or his demons. The large number of demons ensures that evil is everywhere. Despite the power and allies Satan has, everything related to him is under the constant control of God.
One way of control over Satan given to people from God and in a sense a restriction of his activities against people is faith. Another very important resort of control of Satan is repentance. I think repentance is God’s gift to people and specifically to the sinners. The way things are, the privilege of repentance is not given to Satan and the other fallen angels. True repentance, faith and love is a blessing for man and drive Satan away.

A lot of people believe that Satan is a creation of peoples imagination and that he really doesn’t exist. That is exactly what he wants, for people to believe that he doesn’t exist. But he isn’t the creation of some fanciful minds or some impersonal evil power. He is a creature with individuality having characteristics like intellect (Corinthians II 11:3), will (Timothy II 2:26) and feelings (Revelation 12:17).
So, why Satan wants people to believe that his existence is a myth? Because at once the Holy Bible is contradicted, one of his main goals. If he is a myth then everything the Bible says is a myth too. With this thinking he spreads doubts to people and tries to alienate them from God.
To drift people to sin and finally make them lose their soul, Satan uses a very complex technique through centuries, which according to time he improves it. Let us see some of his techniques and don’t forget that they all aim at dissociate people from God.
a. He uses science in everything is against or in contrary with God:
A lot of people need scientific proof to believe in something. They claim that everything around us was made incidentally and spread suspicions that man was made from apes concealing the possibility for the ape to have been made from a crossbreed of humans with some other animal.
b. He creates heresies through people to gain their hearts and souls and disintegrate the Church.
c. He helps incompetent politicians to gain distinction so that people would suffer.
d. Through magic he destroys, he spreads diseases, discords and all kind of disasters.
